While the opioid epidemic is what you hear about most on the news, benzodiazepine use disorders are a real concern, too. 59,749 benzodiazepine prescriptions were given out in Yavapai County in 2023, and many of them make it into the hands of people who use them outside of their intended purposes. If you’re on this page, you may know this firsthand.
Having a benzodiazepine use disorder is nothing to be ashamed of. By getting benzodiazepine addiction treatment with Wolf Creek Recovery, you can start your recovery. We know just what it’s like, and just how you feel. Many of us are in recovery ourselves, so you can be certain everyone you work with during your treatment understands where you’re coming from.
What We Treat: The Definition of Benzodiazepine Use Disorder
Benzodiazepine use disorder is when someone uses benzodiazepines, sometimes referred to as benzos, outside of their intended purpose, frequently, until their body develops a dependence on them. Common benzodiazepines include Valium, Xanax, Halcion, Ativan, and Klonopin.
We treat all types of benzodiazepine dependence at Wolf Creek Recovery, as well as any mental health concerns that come with the condition. Benzodiazepine has a mental and emotional component, and we treat it all to help you heal fully and completely.
Wolf Creek’s Treatment Options for Benzodiazepine Addiction: What to Expect
We offer different program options for benzodiazepine use disorder treatment, consisting of evidence-based therapies.
Benzo Detoxification
We offer detox through our affiliated partners, where you will receive 24/7 medical monitoring and assistance as you go through the benzodiazepine withdrawal process. Your withdrawal symptoms will be managed to make the experience as comfortable as possible. You will also receive an assessment to help determine the kind of customized care you’ll receive once you complete the detox program.
Residential Rehab Services
Standard residential programs involve spending time at a drug addiction treatment facility 24/7.
Our treatment is similar, but not quite the same. With Wolf Creek, you’ll stay at our facility during the day and return to housing we provide for you at night. Our typical treatment program lasts for 30 to 90 days, and we also have an extended care program for individuals who need long-term care. Our extended care program lasts as long as necessary after the initial treatment program.
During your time with us, you’ll participate in both group therapy and individual therapy. Individual psychotherapy may consist of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and existential therapy. We also offer prescription management.
Unique points of our programs are adventure and outdoor therapy, where you’ll have fun outside while learning positive coping skills and teamwork. You might even pick up a new hobby to participate in once you leave treatment.
Outpatient Rehab Services
Our outpatient program is a great option for those with a benzodiazepine use disorder. In outpatient treatment, you’ll spend part of your day with us, and still return to our supportive housing afterwards. Outpatient is a good bridge between our initial partial hospitalization program (PHP) and returning to regular life, so we encourage anyone who completes our PHP to participate, too.
Local clients can participate in outpatient and return home each day. At Wolf Creek, we want to give you the tools to improve your life.
How to Know if You Need Treatment for Benzodiazepine Use Disorder
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) classifies benzodiazepine use disorder as a sedative use disorder, and it has specific diagnosable criteria. This includes:
- Taking the sedative at a greater volume or for a longer time than originally intended
- A lot of time is spent taking, acquiring, and recovering from the sedative
- The person experiences withdrawal and/or cravings when not taking the sedative
- More of the sedative is required to get the wanted effects over time (tolerance)
- The sedative is interfering with relationships, job performance, or other responsibilities
If these symptoms sound like you, it’s time to seek treatment for benzodiazepine use disorder. Wolf Creek Recovery is here for you, and ready to meet you where you are in your life.
Causes of Benzo Addiction Are More Common Than You Think
There are many reasons someone might develop a benzodiazepine use disorder. It most commonly appears in people with undiagnosed mental health conditions, trauma, and significant stress. It also has a small genetic component. These factors don’t mean someone will develop a benzodiazepine use disorder, just like lacking them doesn’t mean someone can’t develop one. Benzodiazepine use disorder can affect anyone.
