There were 1,023 fatal overdoses in Phoenix in 2022. To put that in perspective, that’s the total capacity of Phoenix’s Musical Instrument Museum. Think about that for a moment.

It’s unsettling, isn’t it? It’s tragic that so many lives were lost to overdose in our city in a single year.

Wolf Creek Recovery’s mission is to change that. Our Phoenix addiction treatment saves lives – and transforms them, too. Every person we empower to achieve recovery is a victory, and another step toward lowering that sad statistic.

We can help you, too.

What to Expect From Addiction Treatment With Wolf Creek Recovery in Phoenix

First, we’ll give you a thorough assessment. Your results will guide your treatment plan with us – including if you’ll receive mental health treatment alongside treatment for your substance use disorder.

Then, you’ll get settled into housing provided by Wolf Creek. You’ll attend therapy during the day, then return to this housing in the evening until you complete your program. How long the program lasts depends entirely on what you need, but we encourage you to stay until you’re fully confident in your ability to maintain recovery.

Once you visit Wolf Creek, you’ll have us whenever you need us. Your case manager will advocate for you during your treatment here and well after. They’ll help you transition back to regular life and can assist with housing, employment, and more. We’re serious about setting you up for long-term success.

Treatment We Offer at Wolf Creek Recovery

Wolf Creek offers two major programs: our partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP). You’ll stay in our housing and receive comprehensive care no matter what you choose. The major difference is that PHP involves all-day care, five days a week. IOP is a lot less of a time commitment.

You’ll participate in multiple different therapies while you’re with us. The core of our programs is built around cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and our trauma therapy modalities. Trauma plays a major role in why people begin taking substances in the first place and healing from it is a huge part of achieving lasting recovery. Group therapy will also be part of your treatment because we believe meeting and learning from people with similar experiences and goals is invaluable. We know different therapy methods work for different people, so we have a lot of options. This way, you can find what works best for you.

We also spend a lot of time outdoors. Fresh air is good for the soul, so we camp, canoe, paddleboard, and play team sports to make the most of it. These activities build skills and remind clients that life without substances can still be fun and fulfilling! They also make for great hobbies and coping mechanisms to carry with you once you leave us.

Signs That It’s Time to Get Treatment for a Substance Use Disorder

It’s not always clear when a substance habit develops into a substance use disorder – especially if it’s alcohol or another legal substance. Thankfully, there are some guidelines laid out in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Most experts refer to these criteria when diagnosing a substance use disorder:

  • The person takes more of the substance than they meant to
  • They’ve tried to stop the substance unsuccessfully
  • They take the substance even though it’s clearly harming their health and/or relationships
  • They spend a lot of time getting, taking, and recovering from the substance
  • They get sick when they go a while without the substance (withdrawal)
  • They have to take more of the substance than they used to to get the effects they want (tolerance)
  • They do risky things, such as drive or have unsafe sex, while under the influence
  • They’ve given up things they once enjoyed in favor of the substance
  • They’re neglecting responsibilities because of the substance

If a lot of these points sound familiar to you, a substance use disorder might be at play. You should see a mental health professional for an official diagnosis and treatment.

It’s also worth noting that even if you only experience a couple of points on this list, your relationship with your substance of choice is worth examining. It’s never a bad idea to seek help, even if you think it’s “not a problem.”
