How Does Adventure and Outdoor Therapy Work?

Fortunately, we have great weather on our side. Located in sunny Prescott AZ, outdoor activities are plentiful. We’ll take groups out to participate in structured activities where they can practice team building and communication, work on problem solving initiatives and enjoy freedom while being in control.
As with our other programs, we try to match our clients to the outdoor activities they enjoy. You are not required to participate in things you’re not comfortable with. Although, we always tell our clients to keep an open mind! You just never know when you’ll discover a new passion you didn’t know you had!
What are the Benefits of Outdoor Adventure Therapy?
Many of our clients end up having so much fun when participating in outdoor activities, they forget they’re even part of a rehab program! We hope to see you learn and grow in new environments as well.
Here are some of the advantages to participating in adventure therapy:
- Promote a sense of responsibility
- Build positive relationships
- Work on positive social skills like conflict resolution
- Improve self-awareness and self-confidence
- Increase resiliency
- Develop healthy coping skills

Recreational Team Sports at Wolf Creek

Like adventure therapy, sports introduce people in recovery to healthy activities they can practice outside of treatment. If you discover that you do indeed enjoy tennis or have a natural talent for golf, you’ll automatically have a healthy pastime to pursue.
Wolf Creek Recovery chooses to offer sports at our facility because they:
- Improve communication
- Encourage clients to make snap decisions under pressure
- Facilitate teamwork and working toward a common goal
- Require people to manage their time
- Build self-esteem and close community ties
Discover Your Passions in a Safe, Structured Setting
As you can see, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your time at Wolf Creek Recovery. You are welcome to participate in any of these activities. As always, we encourage our clients to be open to trying new things, even if it’s outside their comfort zone. You’ll still be doing these things within a safe, nurturing space, so now is the time to spread your wings and see what types of passions lie within!
