Despite the common stereotype of the unemployed person with a substance use disorder, stories of addiction often look far different. Even people with government jobs need treatment sometimes – just like anyone else might.
This population is sometimes overlooked in the world of behavioral healthcare, despite there being an estimated 92,548 federal government workers in Arizona as of 2023. There’s also a misconception that these employees all make a lot of money, but that isn’t necessarily true.
Thankfully, if you fall into this group, you might be able to use GEHA for addiction treatment.
About GEHA and the Addiction Treatment It Could Help You Find at Wolf Creek Recovery
GEHA stands for “Government Employees Health Association.” It offers federal employees and retirees, including post office workers and military personnel, health coverage. GEHA plans also include coverage for their families.
If you have GEHA coverage, it may be able to at least partially cover treatment for a substance use disorder. This applies to treatment with Wolf Creek, too.
Wolf Creek Recovery provides evidence-based, individualized treatment for substance use disorders in Arizona. We’ll empower you to heal in our trauma therapy and transform the way you think in our cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). You’ll also learn that there’s so much to enjoy in a substance-free life in activities around the facility – including time we spend outside playing sports, camping, and more.
Levels of GEHA Coverage for Substance Use Treatment
GEHA currently offers five different plans that may cover treatment for a substance use disorder:
- Elevate – The lowest-cost option. It offers low copays on primary and mental health care visits, as well as generic prescriptions. It’s best for people who don’t use healthcare often.
- HDHP – Allows for health savings accounts (HSA) and unlimited telehealth visits through MDLIVE. Routine vision and dental are included. It can cover one additional person.
- Standard – Family-focused, intended for families who use healthcare an average amount. Includes maternity coverage, assistance with IVF, and low copays for services families use most often.
- Elevate Plus – The same focus on family as standard, with a $0 copay for telehealth from MDLIVE. It’s recommended for families who use healthcare an average or higher amount.
- High Option – The highest level of GEHA coverage, recommended for people who use healthcare services often. Offers comprehensive coverage on prescriptions and low appointment copays, and pairs well with Medicare.
Is Wolf Creek Recovery’s Alcohol and Drug Rehab Covered by GEHA?
Wolf Creek works with GEHA on an out-of-network basis to make treatment as affordable as possible. Depending on your plan, GEHA may very well cover part of your care, such as:
- Detox
- Partial hospitalization
- Medications
- Treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions
We encourage you to contact us. We can verify if your addiction treatment is covered by GEHA, and discuss your options. We also offer reasonable private pay rates if that works better for you. We want you to get the treatment you need without finances getting in the way, so we’ll do what we can to help.
Will GEHA Cover More Than One Rehab Stay With Wolf Creek Recovery?
This also depends on the kind of GEHA coverage you have and is something we can check on for you if you get in touch with us.
We know cost is a serious concern in these situations, but shame is also a major factor when people return to substances after receiving treatment. Know you are always welcome at Wolf Creek. Returning to substances is part of some recovery journeys. It doesn’t make those journeys less legitimate or valuable. When you come to Wolf Creek, we are here whenever you need us – even if that means coming back to treatment again after completing our program.
Start Rehab Through GEHA at Wolf Creek Recovery
We know you’re in a difficult situation right now. No matter if you’re the person with a substance use disorder, or your loved one is, you’re stuck in a toxic and painful cycle. Declining job performance is a common side effect of substance use, and if nothing changes, it’s not just a possibility you might experience – it’s an inevitability.
The cold hard truth is that substance use disorders rarely get better on their own. At this point, it’s very unlikely that you can just “stop whenever you want.” That doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or a failure. It means you have a health condition, and you need help.
We’ve been there. Most of Wolf Creek’s staff is in recovery, too, so we know exactly how you feel. We also know what works, and that recovery is possible for anyone. That means you or your loved one, too.
If cost is a concern for you, you might have GEHA coverage for drug and alcohol rehab. We’d be happy to confirm your benefits. Just reach out to us. It could change your life.
